LEVFD Annual Golf Benefit

The Land’s End Volunteer Fire Department held its 10th Annual Golf Benefit at The Links at Land’s End Golf Course on Saturday, June 8th, 2013. The LEVFD tournament is the primary fund raiser for the entire year’s budget, and it did not disappoint. Thanks to the generous donations from local businesses, local homeowners, and golf players, the event was a tremendous suc- cess.

Ironically, it rained the day before and the day after the benefit, however, on game day the weather could not have been better. Pleasant temperatures and a mild breeze made this tournament a joy to play in; almost perfect.

There were 19–4 person teams that played 18 holes of scramble style golf, a driving range game for men & women, and a put- ting maze game. All holes and games had a cash payout. All 5 of the par 3 holes had large value hole-in-one prizes sponsored by Alba Tractor, Sartin Marine, and the Links Golf Course. The winning golf team was sponsored by Case Mobile Homes, with the following players: Robert Case, Jackson Case, Hunter Smith, and Huy Nguyen. Other winning teams were awarded prize money for 2nd, 7th, 13th, and 17th place.

In addition to the individual golf hole games, a raffle was held with 86 prizes donated by local businesses and homeowners. The estimated retail values of the raffle prizes was $7600 with the largest prize a week’s stay in Vail Colorado donated by a local homeowner.

Finally, as the golf scores were tallied, and raffle ticket checked, the event terminated with a mouth-watering three course BBQ lunch, served with smoked brisket, chicken, and sausage, with sides of baked beans, homemade red potato salad, coleslaw, and all the fixings’.

We thank all the gracious volunteers who made this event possible. This includes not only the volunteer firemen, but also all the local civilian volunteers that spent their Saturday to make this event the success that it has become. We also thank the Link’s at Lands End for allowing exclusive use of the golf course on a weekend day, for our private benefit.

Land’s End Volunteer Fire Department was chartered in 2004 to service fire, medical, and other assistance calls in the North West corner of Wood County and beyond. We have responded to calls as far away as Rains, Hopkins, and Upshur County. Last summer’s intense call load with multiple wild land fires took a serious toll on our equipment and our budget. This successful golf benefit helps replenish our coffers for the coming fire season.

We invite everyone to participate next year. If you can, join us for the fun, give us a call and sponsor a team, a hole, or donate a raffle item. We’ll even take your cash donation. We only survive by your continuous generosity.
